refining your fascia this fall

refining your fascia
this fall

enter fall in michigan, with all the awesome outdoor activities….fall festivals, apple orchards, trick or treating, nature walks to soak up the color of the changing leaves.

what’s something all of these activites have in common??

you guessed it - walking on uneven surfaces.

but what’s that got to do with fascia?

well our fascia is reinforced from the tiny micro movements we do day in and day out, like walking.

walking on uneven surfaces changes the activity just enough to add a little variety and give your fascia time to get a little less stuck if you’re paying a bit of attention.

2 minute subtle shift…

to get the most out of your outdoor walking on uneven surfaces

  1. go as close to barefoot as you possible can by wearing barefoot or minimalist shoes
  2. push off with the ball of your big toe more often than not to engage the triangle of your foot
  3. let your hips rotate, stop resisting the sway

ps: we will explore these shifts a little more over the next couple of posts

see you next week, Brooke ✌🏻

The small feet of a baby resting on a soft white blanket

push, don't pull yourself we have a triangle on the bottom of each foot; from the heel to the ball of the big toe to the ball of the pinky toe and back down to the heel. this triangle is made up of the different arches [fascia + muscles + tendons] in our feet which are meant to flatten and arch with every single step. the responsiveness of our arches is what helps us walk forward with ease, especially on uneven surfaces, absorb shock from getting to our knees and low back and help keep us...

the mechanics of barefoot the beauty of walking on uneven surfaces is that it gives even more opportunity for our arches and fascial system to their job - if we’re using our feet as they’re designed. there’s a path of fascia called the deep front line that attaches at the toes to the inner thigh to the hips. when we push off with the ball of our big toe, at the end of each step, the deep front line is triggered. this collective gives us more power, balance hip stability and hip mobility. the...

when the brain + body forget they're besties the brain and body are besties who are designed to work seamlessly with each other so that you can be as efficient as possible but like all good friends sometimes when there’s a little distance in the relationship, things can feel a bit awkward, clunky or effortful. and in any relationship worth keeping its necessary to do the effort to build that communication back up. once that effort is initiated, it doesn’t take long for the brain and body to...
