9/10 people are breathing in micro tensions

I don’t have actual stats but I believe borrowing movement to breathe is more common than breathing how we are designed to [ai says 9/10 people aren’t breathing ideally 🙃]

when it comes to borrowing for breath there are some specific areas of the body that we tend to use. that’s the

  • chest
  • neck
  • shoulders
  • belly
  • upper ribs

the more we rely on these muscles to help us breath, the more micro tensions we’re putting into our system.

that’s because we’re asking them to do a job they were not designed for. think about how stressed, tense and exhausted you’d be from doing a job that’s outside your skill set. you don’t see me programming computers.

borrowing from these muscles also creates chaos for the distribution of pressures and breathing how we are designed to [more on that in the next post]

2 minute subtle shift...

find what muscles you’re consistently asking to help you breath.

is it the:

  • chest
  • neck
  • shoulders
  • belly
  • upper ribs
  • diaphragm [spoiler alert this is what you want!]

get in front of a mirror and watch yourself breathe.

  • what area of your body do you see moving most?
  • what area of your body do you see moving first?
  • close your eyes and where do you feel the most movement happening inside your body?

the answers to these questions are most likely the muscles you rely on for breathing.

if the diaphragm isn’t doing the majority of the work it’s a great time to start building your best breath.
